Adare

Title

Adare

Description

The name Adare is associated with the pastoral pioneer family the Cudmores from Limerick. Adare House in Victor Harbor is now a conference centre.

It was a cottage when Daniel Cudmore bought it in 1891. He added turrets and a cellar and the cottage became known as Adare castle.

Some of the family’s other properties were named Tara and Avoca.

There is also a Cudmore Avenue in the eastern Adelaide suburb of Toorak Gardens.

The name Adare is the anglicized form of Irish Áth Dara ‘ford of the oak grove’
